Our Services
The Moving Firm provides residential moving, long-distance relocation, packing, short-term storage, piano and specialty-item moving, labor-only loading assistance, and senior and downsizing moves, using our own trucks and our own crew across Allegheny County and the interstate routes we serve. Nothing on this site or performed by our crew constitutes a referral to, or a booking through, any other moving company; every job listed here is completed by our own employees.
Quotes and Pricing
Estimates given by phone, form, or in person are based on the details you provide at the time: cubic footage, item count, access conditions, and distance. Hourly local jobs bill at $145/hr for a two-mover crew or $185/hr for three, with a two-hour minimum; flat-rate and long-distance jobs are priced once a crew has enough detail to commit to a number. Final charges can differ from an initial estimate if the actual job includes more items, more stairs, or more distance than described when the quote was built; we’ll flag any such difference before continuing work, not after the fact.
Scheduling, Changes, and Cancellations
Move dates are held once confirmed with our office, and we ask for as much notice as possible if a date needs to shift; trucks and crews get booked out during busy weeks, particularly around Pitt and CMU move-in season, so late changes aren’t always possible to accommodate on short notice. Cancellations made with reasonable advance notice carry no penalty; cancellations made the same day a crew is dispatched may be billed for a portion of the scheduled time.
Payment
Payment is due at the completion of the move unless other arrangements were made in advance with our office. We accept standard payment methods discussed at booking; specific card or account information is never collected through this website.
Liability and Claims
Every move we run carries $1,000,000 in cargo coverage, and all interstate work is covered under our federal operating authority in addition to our Pennsylvania household goods registration on file. Under the federal minimum released-value standard, liability defaults to $0.60 per pound per article unless you’ve selected a full-value coverage option, typically 1 to 3 percent of declared value, before the move begins. Any claim for loss or damage needs to be reported to our office within nine months of the move’s completion date, in line with federal requirements for household goods carriers.
Customer Responsibilities
Access to the home on move day, including parking for the truck, clear pathways, and disclosure of anything unusually heavy, fragile, or hazardous, falls to the customer. Jobs that involve access our crew wasn’t told about in advance, such as a walk-up with no elevator or a shuttle needed because a truck can’t reach the building, may require additional time or equipment billed at standard rates.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and any dispute arising from services booked through this site is handled under Pennsylvania jurisdiction unless federal law governing interstate carriers applies instead. Continuing to use this site or book services with us means you accept these terms as written, including any updates posted here from time to time.
